Ellen was born in Washington, North Carolina. She has spent most of her life working in different areas of the United State and abroad. She is a graduate of New Bern High School. Ellen completed two years of study at Southeastern Community College in Computer Science.

Ellen has served as Venue Technology Manager for the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, Salt Lake City, Utah and Athens, Greece. Ellen was responsible for setting up communications for Games Security, FBI and the Secret Service.  Ellen also served as Venue Technology Manager for the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England where she worked for Queen Elizabeth. She spent her time setting up venues for the competing athletes.

During her time working for AT&T Ellen worked on military bases overseeing the installation of top-secret communications equipment needed during times of joint military operations.

She has spent considerable time focused on our youth programs and is also very passionate about the Rotary Foundation. Ellen Deaton has served in other volunteer capacities with other civic organizations.

A Rotarian since 2004, Ellen is a member of the Maysville Rotary Club and formerly from the Shallotte Rotary Club. Ellen has served in various club positions as Treasurer, Secretary, Foundation Chair, Foundation Advocate and Annual Funds Chair. Ellen is a graduate of Rotary Leadership Institute. She was President of the Shallotte Rotary Club 2012-2013. Ellen is passionate about the Rotary Foundation and is a Major Donor, Paul Harris Society Member, and Bequest Society Member. 

Roy and Ellen have been married for over 25 years. Most weekends they can be found enjoying the beach and spending time with their grandchildren.
